he cherry wood here has been top-finished in semi-gloss lacquer. The gloss has been toned down some, and a bit of sheen left to complement the brass inside the cage. The subject is two chrysanthemums; one on the front and the other on the reverse. Blooms have been left out of the depiction to give the leaves a chance to receive the attention their form deserves. Each leaf displaying a different movement as the wind rips through them.
A few buds are present to suggest what will come later in the season.
