he base is sheer-finished cherrywood.  Sheer finishing               involves a hand applied and rubbed finish that soaks into the wood but does not build too much.  This protects the wood without visibly covering the wood and results in a finish that allows you to experience the wood, not the finish.
The lantern portion is a handmade brass collar that supports the light bulb sockets and offers another texture and color to the lamp.  The shade itself is standard with cherry with mulberry paper. .
The subject here, a Fuscia Bonsaii, comes from a potted plant my mother had for years.  The coarseness of the trunk is indicative of the age of the plant.  The carving of the blooms include the stamens and pistils,  which in the fuscia are quite pronounced.

Pride In Construction And Pride In Ownership

        ife's bottom line sometimes seems to reside in our           relationships. Fine craft creates a relationship between the craftsman and the client.  The object gives pleasure to the craftsman in its creation and to the client in its use.

"To give people pleasure in the things they must perforce use, that is one great office of decoration;
to give people pleasure in the things they must perforce make, that is the other use of it."
